Nearly 50% of the Mexican population lives in poverty, I am privileged to be able to quarantine and to stay away from the chaos of big cities and covid pandemic, the truth is the pandemic is affecting the most vulnerable. The southeast of Mexico is the poorest and least developed region in the country and at the same it has the most beautiful and magical places.
In Mexico many people got their salary reduced up to 75 USD per month specially in the tourism and hospitality industry and still they are the lucky ones, since many other lost their jobs leaving them even more vulnerable.
Staying at home and quarantine is only for upper class; most people live by the day or below the poverty line and without any government incentives they are left with no choice than risking their lives from getting ill - either catch covid-19 or starve to death.
The poor are getting poorer and there will be more of them. Tomorrow will be judge by our actions over coronavirus today.
